Goals
In order to attain maximum potential of our Vision Statement, Little Ones Lutheran School Inc. has adopted the following goals, adjusted to be developmentally and age-appropriate for each child, fostered in a Christian atmosphere, and designed in accordance with the recommendations of the Delaware Early Learning Foundations For School Success. These goals will be attained through the use of large and small group activities, individual activities, and play in a student-centered environment.
- To develop language and communication skills in all children through the use of activities involving interaction with adults and peers, story telling, listening, following directions and recognizing sound in words.
- To develop literacy skills in all children through the use of activities involving listening to stories, recognizing beginning sounds, developing writing skills, using a variety of writing tools, identifying letters, recognizing printed name, and answering questions about stories read by teacher.
- To develop mathematics skills in all children through the use of activities involving beginning awareness of numbers, counting, comparing objects, recognizing shapes, using puzzles, using blocks, sorting objects, recognizing colors and creating patterns.
- To develop science skills in all children through the use of activities involving the 5 senses, investigating, observing, hands-on exploration, daily discussion of weather, observing nature and the environment, expanding the knowledge of the body and health, and beginning to understand cause and effect.
- To develop creative art skills in all children through activities involving music, reciting rhymes and chants, exploring an understanding of different cultures, using a variety of art materials, creating art pieces, learning rhythm through movement, participating in dramatic play, and developing creativity and imagination.
- To develop social and emotional skills in all children through activities involving developing a positive self-image, increasing independence in activities and tasks, showing satisfaction in completing a task, expressing emotions appropriately, following simple rules and routines, beginning to use materials properly and safely, attempting to solve problems in a positive manner, cooperating, compromising, sharing taking turns, showing empathy, feeling secure and comfortable communicating with adults, developing awareness of community helpers and using caution in unfamiliar situations.
- To develop physical and health growth through the use of activities involving tools such as scissors, paper punch, stapler, hammer, play dough and other manipulatives, developing hand-eye coordination through the use of blocks, puzzles, stringing beads, and reproducing patterns, begin to control hand in the use of writing and drawing using pencils, markers, chalk, and paint brushes, develop balance, develop the ability to coordinate movements, showing progress in physical growth, actively play and exercise, showing awareness of nutrition and independence in hygiene, building awareness to follow basic health and safety rules including traffic and pedestrian safety, and responding appropriately to potentially harmful objects and activities.
- To develop new approaches to learning in all children through activities involving use of the 5 senses, making independent choices within limits set by adults, approaching tasks with flexibility, imagination, inventiveness and confidence, showing eagerness and curiosity to learn, beginning to focus and compete a variety of tasks, beginning to develop the ability to concentrate despite distractions, beginning to demonstrate the ability to follow a sequence of steps to create a finished project, beginning to develop the ability to recognize and solve problems, demonstrating the ability to sequence events, and developing the ability to classify, compare and contrast objects and events.
- To develop spiritual growth in all children through activities involving Bible stories and songs, understanding the importance of Jesus' love, attending weekly Children's Chapel, and instilling the importance of treating others in a Christian way at all times.
